Design

Starting from the outside of the device, the 2014 MacBook Pro doesn’t look as slick as newer edition Apple laptops. Recent MacBook’s have smaller bezels and come in different colors which look super nice. 2014 MacBook Pro looks classy with its brushed aluminum finish. It boasts the glow-up Apple logo that’s missing on the new model.

Build quality

This device has a great build quality. The chassis is heavier and feels really solid. Also, the display is excellent as it comes with a full retina display bringing it toe-to-toe with more recent MacBook’s.

Performance

We reviewed the base version of the 2014 MacBook Pro, and we can say it held up nicely on most tests. The overall speed is exceptional but the device does get hot when running specific applications although the fans hardly ever have to come on. It handles light tasks like web programming, internet surfing, and some light gaming fine and compared with newer MacBook’s, you won’t notice any significant difference in ‘real-life’ performance. On the downside, the device would have been a lot better with 16GB of RAM but the 8GB which our test sample ran on held its own. Lucky the storage can be easily upgraded unique on the newest Apple machines where everything si integrated with the logic board.

Conclusion

In conclusion, if you have enough money to splurge, get the newest MacBook you can afford as you are not only getting a better computer, you are also future-proofing yourself. However, if you are on a limited budget, the 2014 MacBook is one of the best you would find, and it would work fine for many years, no matter what you want to use it for. And the good news is that Apple online stores sell laptops that are manufacturer refurbished at a discounted price.
