The year 2018 was the year the notch came to take over, and the Apple earbuds were a thing. The year 2019 is past its second quarter already, and a lot of changes have come to Smartphone scene. I would love to say this year has been incredibly favorable to smartphone enthusiasts. It is very hard to go wrong with most phones this year; even the low-end phones can basically do most of what you need them to do. However, there are still some bad eggs among them.
Here is our top-four list of the worst phones:
- Samsung Galaxy Fold
- Samsung S7
- Sony Xperia 1
- Sony Xperia 10 &10 plus
Samsung Galaxy Fold
If you were thinking of making a foldable phone your daily driver for the year 2019, I am sorry, you will have to wait till the year 2020 at least. The Samsung Galaxy fold was the most public flop for a smartphone this year, and it was for a lot of obvious reasons. The smartphone cost $2000 straight out the gate, and with it came some bad early reviews. Several reviewers had experiences where the screens of the Galaxy Fold broke after a day or two. That’s not too good for $2000 phone. Even though they have been recalled, I would advise you to wait for a few iterations before buying this phone if it ever made a return.
Samsung S7
Yeah, I know this looks bad for Samsung, another flagship phone on the do-not-buy list. I guess it is bound to happen if you are the largest smartphone maker in the world. The Samsung S7 and s7 edge are basically scratches and fingerprint magnets, as they get these two things easily. The scratches are really obvious thanks to the shiny metallic finish; you should especially stay away from the red ones. Also, you are better off getting the Samsung Galaxy S8 in when it comes to speed and performance, as the S7 is not much faster than the previous year’s S6. Lastly, this phone is just too expensive for its performance and storage options.
Sony Xperia 1
I have never been a fan of the Sony Xperia phones, but I know they have made some really incredible phones in that series in the past. However, the new Sony Xperia 1 is not something I am eager to use. The phone is pretty; I would give it that and also it is very fast. The camera app used to control the three cameras at the back are quite slow. When you want to switch from the main and telephoto lens to the ultrawide angle lens, it is very slow. You most likely will miss the shot you are so eager to take. Also, the 21:9 aspect ratio is very hard to use in normal use-cases. Trust me it is awesome for media consumption; you might in fact not need your laptop screen for that anymore. However, for just scrolling and texting, and selecting items on the screen, the phone is incredibly tall. Lastly, the phone is incredibly slippery; it is so slippery I can dare to call the worlds’ s slipperiest phone.
Sony Xperia 10 &10 plus
I am sorry to the fans of Sony Xperia phones, but the phones have just not been doing a lot in terms of performance and looks. Just like it is in the Xperia 1, the 21:9 aspect ratio is a bit too much for the phone. It doesn’t do much than give a visual appeal to the phone, even to some people the phone looks weird. The real bummer is the fact there is no software optimization to take advantage of the tall display. Unlike phones like the Pixel 3 XL which has a smaller display but shows the same amount of content as the Xperia 10 and 10 plus.
The 630 & 636 Snapdragon processors are a tad too old to compete in this generation of smartphone wars. These chips were made back in 2017, and they were awesome for that time, but not in this period where they have to compete with chips like the 845 and 845 Qualcomm processors.
