There is no simple answer to this question because as we have seen this year, Apple has put much effort into making their devices provide better gaming experiences. Apple has made its name in the tech industry from both its phones and laptop from their innovative designs, the unique quality build of their products, top-class software and other features makes it an excellent machine for work and school but not for gaming.
Answering the question if MacBook is ideal or suitable for gaming is quite tricky as there are several factors to be considered: the model, the price, the hardware, the general philosophy behind the creation of these computers.
MacBooks come in three types:
MacBook: the traditional and first MacBook
MacBook Air: a thinner version of the standard MacBook
MacBook Pro: this is the best type of MacBook there is, it comes in several models, and it’s the most powerful Mac designed for professional users.
MacBook Pro
Since MacBook Pro is the best, we’ll use its specs for this analysis.
MacBook Pro comes in 13 and 15-inch display which is quite comfortable for gaming. They come equipped with Intel’s Core i5 or i7 which is also quite decent. One of the problems with gaming on MacBook is the VRAM. Most MacBook models have very low VRAMS. MacBook pro being the most advanced has a VRAM of 4gb which is quite decent for just entry game levels like Mine craft, Fortnight and league of leagues but playing more advanced games can make the laptop lag or completely freeze.
Another issue with the MacBook is it’s over the head pricing. For you to get a decent MacBook for gaming, you will spend at least $2000, which seems like overkill. As a matter of fact, there are more powerful gaming laptops at lower prices.
More attention to gaming
However, Apple has been giving more attention to its users’ gaming experience. Firstly we saw the new iPad Pro which offers a phenomenal gaming experience, and now we see Apple’s new Arcade service which was launched alongside iPhone 11. This arcade brings a Netflix-for-gaming concept where users pay a monthly subscription of $4.99 to gain access to top-notch video gaming experiences which aren’t available anywhere else, and this single subscription can be shared with up to six different Apple devices.
Apple MacBook users can now boast of over 100 unique titles exclusive to Apple devices which includes Beyond The Sky, A Sequel To The Classic Adventure and with art to name a few. With the use of high bandwidth fueled by faster Wi-Fi connectivity and upcoming 5G network, streaming games with advanced graphics without any lag has become possible, and Apple wants to take advantage of this.
In addition, the collections of games available will be updated monthly to ensure that there’s always something new for every Mac user to play.
We have seen the effort apple has put in 2019 alone to improve its users’ gaming experience and the positive results, so there’s no saying what the future holds. Although this doesn’t make MacBook the Number 1 go-to for excellent gaming experience, we can say to an extent it’s a suitable gaming PC.
