The iPhone 11 series were released at the start of September, after the long wait. It came with a lot of eye-catching features that improved from the last, features like the camera – a pro-triple-lens rear camera – were groundbreaking. The battery life of the iPhone 11 also came with big improvements. However, one of the biggest features is a new processor and performance improvement that comes with it.
Among a couple of other things Apple discussed about, the new processor was a big topic. Apple said that its groundbreaking A13 Bionic processor would give the new iPhone models a huge 20 percent boost in power if compared with the iPhone X series. The iPhone X series was already the leading phones in this aspect in the world; now, the iPhone 11 series is here to surpass it in that regard. Isn’t that juicy?
Before we proceed into the details of how fast this new processor is, let’s talk about what a processor is and its purpose in a phone (for people that do not know). A processor is like the CPU of a computer. A processor is what is responsible for executing the commands you give your smartphone. The processor gets the command from you, converts them into electronic signal and return you the desired output.
The processor is the brain of the smartphone, so the more advanced it is, the better the processing of the command you give it.
Now, let’s move on to how fast the new processor can be. The new A13 Bionic processor gives room for the use of powerful features like a 4K video at 60fps and taking slow-motion selfies. It has been described as the fastest CPU and GPU to ever be on a smartphone. The A13 Bionic builds on the machine learning features that came with the A12 Bionic. It increases overall performance and brought more gains in power efficiency which automatically improves battery life.
The A13 Bionic uses the second generation of Apple’s 7-nanometer process, which means 8.5 billion transistors are packed onto each chip. For comparison, the A12 Bionic has 6.9 Billion per chip. The chip has been described as the most efficient chip to date; each transistor has been designed for higher performance and low power.
The A13 Bionic system-on-chip features a total of 18 cores, which is similar to the A12 Bionic. It has a six-core CPU, four-core GPU, and an eight-core Neural Engine processor assigned for handling on-board machine learning processes. Four out of the six cores are specially assigned to handling basic phone operations, while the remaining two lie in wait till you launch more intensive processes like recording a 4K video.
When compared to the A12 Bionic, the four cores use 40 percent less power, and 20 percent faster while the remaining two intensive process cores are 20 percent faster and use 30 percent less power.
The A13 Bionic iPhone 11 processor is six times faster than the A12 Bionic and allows a better experience.
