It’s the season where a lot of people start to contemplate if they should get an upgrade on their iPhone. Apple released the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro at the same time. Which means upgrading decision gets even tougher. Now, the big question will be: Should I get the iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro?
Also, do not forget that there is still the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max, making it four variants of the iPhone 12.
Unboxing the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro was a lot of fun. Firstly, you would notice the significant reduction in packaging compared to the iPhone 11 series. It comes with a packaging about half the size of the iPhone 11. Apple is trying to save the environment, and they have done a good job with that.
There are common features present between these latest Apple phones, and some slight difference. The common features include the 5G, a feature that makes the phones ready for the full launch of the 5G in a not-so-distant future. Both phones also come with super-fast processors that houses a lot of power. The rear cameras produce absolute beauties of pictures. These features make both phones hard to ignore.
Apple has tried to cater to all its category of customers via these four variants. The iPhone 12 Mini is targeted towards customers that are not ready to splash as much on a new phone. While the iPhone 12 is a bit higher than that for regular users. The iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max are at the top of the food chain, both coming with new and advanced cameras.
The two variants already in the market are the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro. The iPhone 12 Mini and Pro Max will be available by early November.
Similar but different
Both of these phones have similar looks, with only a slight difference. Both come with OLED displays, and a 6.1-inch display. They also have the same pixel density and resolution. However, the slight difference here lies in the brightness. The iPhone 12 Pro has a brightness of up to 800 nits, while the iPhone 12 has a lower brightness level of 625 nits. This means the iPhone 12 Pro is better suited to outdoor situations than the iPhone 12.
In terms of body size, both have the same size. But in terms of weight, the 12 Pro has more weight as it was made from stainless steel, and harbors extra hardware. The iPhone 12 is made from aluminum, and it is lighter than but not as tough as stainless steel.
Both phones are water-resistant and come with magnetic backings. This magnetic backing is used for wireless charging through the MagSafe chargers. The screens are also durable, as they are made tougher by ceramic.
In terms of color variants. The iPhone 12 comes in five variants of colors, ranging from red, black, deep blue to minty green and white. The 12 Pro comes in four color variants, ranging from silver, gold, to the eye-pleasing pacific blue, and the familiar grey.
Both of the iPhone 12 models have wonderful flat sides that are difficult not to love.
Beautiful pictures, but a professional difference
Both phones take great pictures, but the iPhone 12 Pro is targeted at professionals that take their photos with the iPhone. Pro has an optical zoom through the 3rd telephoto lens, it also helps it to take better portrait photos than the iPhone 12.
The phone up to 10 times digital zoom, and 4 times optical zoom. It also has the ProRAW and lidar, which you won’t find in the iPhone 12. Lidar makes it great for the 12 Pro to take photos under low-light, so you don’t have to worry about taking pictures in Night Mode.
The ProRAW feature allows saving photos in raw format, which means you have control over editing. However, this means the photo to be processed by Apple at all. It is great for photographers and photo enthusiasts who want to have total creative control over their photos.
The lidar scanning feature of the 12 Pro also helps it to perform AR tasks. For example, it can give you 3d mapping within minutes.
