It has been only a few weeks since Apple launched the iPhone 12 and 12 pro phones, and there has been a lot of buzz around them. As we see every year, iPhone users are torn between good choices and find it hard to settle for one. Apple also launched the iPhone 12 mini and 12 Pro Max, but they will not go on sale until mid-November in most places. If you are one of the Apple enthusiasts confused as to what choice to make between the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, this piece is for you.

The choice becomes harder than ever for users that are ready to upgrade to the iPhone 12 series. The reason for this hard decision is the choice of four 12 series options. Each one with its uniqueness, but they with more similarities than you would expect. You are looking at the budget, the few features that differentiate them, and if it is worth the monetary sacrifice you want to take.

As for me, my choice is the iPhone 12, and I will explain further in this article. This choice is unique to me and my needs, one I think is aligned with the majority of iPhone users. The iPhone 12 pro max has some features that you wouldn’t find in the iPhone 12, which in my opinion is for the professionals that require those features.

iPhone 12 vs. 12 Pro

A deep look at both of these phones shows that there is little difference between them. Unlike the iPhone 11 and 11 pro that had major differences – the iPhone 12 and 12 pro is closer than you would imagine. They are different but so similar. They are like twins that have few distinctive features.

These phones share the same design and the hardware is similar – as far as the battery and screen. Both come with a 6.1-inch OLED screen. They have a similar display and you could mistake them for each other in the dark. Additionally they have the same processor, which is the A14 Bionic. They both come with a 10.78 Wh battery that you can swap.

Pricing

If you ask me for the most significant difference between these phones, I would say it is the price. While the iPhone 12 cost $829, the iPhone 12 pro cost $999. A difference you would have to ask if it is worth the extra 170 bucks.

If you ask me if there is a reason to pay that extra $170, I would say not really. But, let me lay it bare for you to see if there is much of a difference that is worth paying extra.

What’s different

  • While the base storage of the iPhone 12 is 64GB, the iPhone 12 Pro starts at 128GB. To get more storage on the iPhone 12, you will have to pay for the models with more storage. However, you will still be saving money even if you get the iPhone 12 models with more storage, as it cost less than the iPhone 12 pro base model.

  • In terms of camera, the iPhone 12 Pro has an extra camera, which is a 52mm lens zoom camera. The other two cameras on both phones are the same. It is left to you to decide if the extra camera is worth the extra bucks.

  • The frames are different, with the iPhone 12 pro having a steel frame, while the iPhone 12 has an aluminum frame. However, you will get more vibrant colors from the iPhone 12 options compared to more subtleness from the 12 pro options.

  • There is a 2GB difference in RAM, as the iPhone 12 has 4GB RAM, while the 12 pro has 6GB RAM

  • Perhaps, the biggest feature difference between both phones is the camera options. You can capture photos in low light using the LiDAR feature in the iPhone 12 pro. The LiDAR and zoom camera in the iPhone 12 pro helps you take portrait photos in night mode. This feature is unique to the iPhone 2 pro.

Final thoughts

These above-listed differences are all you will find between these two phones in favor of the iPhone 12 pro. If you don’t like your phone heavy in the hand, you will also prefer the iPhone 12 as it is a bit lighter than the 12 pro.

As I wrote earlier, the basic iPhone user will be satisfied with everything the iPhone 12 offers. The iPhone 12 pro will give you a little more but it might be unnecessary if you don’t have a good use for those features.

If you are a photographer or a person that needs to take great photos in your line of work – by all means, go for the 12 pro.

As for other basic users, the iPhone 12 pro doesn’t offer as much difference when you compare the features and differences in price. The hardware and most features are the same.
