Gaming laptops come in different shapes and sizes. The Razer Blade Pro has always given a mature vibe among gaming laptops. It can challenge your desktop by sitting heavy in your office or be a good looking PC in your home.
Most gaming laptop companies now sway towards the 15-inch display size. However, Razer has kept up the 17-ich Razer Blade Pro. This gaming laptop delivers on the gaming front, as well as serving a purpose as a workstation.
It became the latest laptop to come with the 10th Generation Intel octa-core H series CPU. It combines this with the new super Nvidia RTX GPUs. Razer raised the bar with its display refresh rate by upgrading to a 300Hz refresh rate. All coming together to give a smoother and more accurate gaming experience.
Design and build
The Razer Blade Pro 17 keeps its lovely look like its predecessors. The build is from CNC aluminum and it maintains the gorgeous ebony black color like most of its predecessors. The snake logo sits pretty, well-lit at the lid’s center.
The interior is the good-looking onyx aluminum with a metal deck for the keyboard. Below the keyboard is the big trackpad. Atop the deck, there is good space between the hinge and keyboard which helps to release hot air through the cooling setup.
Razer continued its tradition of lightweight laptops with the Razer Blade Pro 17. It weighs only 6.1 pounds and has a 15.6 by 10.2 by 0.8 inches size. It is among the slimmest replacements for desktops in the market.
Display
The display looks great, with a 17.3-inch size, a non-touch 1920 x 1080 pixel display. The display comes with a great color balance, making you enjoy every color detail in whatever you are viewing. The anti-glare, matte coating did not affect the colors one bit.
The brightness levels come a little short though, at about 304 nits. This is below the 344 nit average we set for brightness.
It doesn’t affect the beautiful display so much, as we enjoyed every second of viewing on the Razer Blade Pro 17.
Keyboard and trackpad
The Razer Blade Pro 17 adopted an island-style keyboard format. There is enough space between the keys and the springy feedback. It is pretty to the eyes with the aesthetically pleasing Chroma lighting. Typing is swift and sweet on the keyboard, as I hit over 70 words per minute during testing. That is above my average.
Talking about backlighting, there is the Synapse 3.0 software that allows you to set backlighting per key. You can configure the backlit depending on how you feel.
It has a glass trackpad that is smooth and responds to Windows 10 gestures. It is easy to move through documents and websites with this trackpad, as it is very responsive. The clicks are also nice.
Performance
The Razer Blade Pro 17 is a blend between a gaming laptop and a good workstation. This leaves us with a mouth-watering prospect for the performance it will give. It has the Intel Core 17 processor, with a 2.8GHz rate and 16GB RAM. It has the 10th Gen Intel H series chip and with up to 5.1 GHz max turbo speed.
Connectivity
The Razer Blade Pro 17 has a level of connectivity that supports its claim as a gaming laptop and workstation. On the left side, there are two Type-A USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, one Type C USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, the headset jack, a power port, and the Ethernet port.
Moving to the right side, there is a Type A USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, HDMI 2.0, the Thunderbolt 3 port, a Kensington slot, and the SD card reader.
Battery life
In the gaming laptop category, you don’t expect a great battery life. However, the new model delivered in this aspect. When put to test, the Pro 17 battery lasted for over 4 hours 30 minutes surfing the web with the WiFi on at a brightness level of 150 nits.
This is much better than the 4 hours 14 minutes average battery life for top gaming laptops.
Conclusion
The Razer Blade Pro 17 didn’t come to joke with its latest upgrade. It delivers greatly on the performance front with enough power specs such as the super Nvidia GPU and the 10th Gen H-series processor. This kind of power allows it to go head to head with laptops in its category. The battery life is also enviable and the look is great. If you can afford it you should go for it.
