For under $1,000, Lenovo has delivered yet another masterclass of a laptop. The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Pro is a good laptop that delivers for both performance, battery life, and display. According to strong sources, the Lenovo Yoga Slim Pro 7 is going to be released sometime in June 2021. It is expected to be first released in Europe, Asia Pacific, and China. Information is not out about other potential areas it might be released, hopefully, it will come to the US.
Reports also reveal that there will be variants with an OLED display and another that has a discrete GPU. The Yoga can become one of the best selling laptop models in its category.
Design
The Lenovo Yoga Slim Pro 7 comes in a really good metal design. It weighs 3.2 pounds, which makes it easy to move around with. 0.7 inches thickness puts it into the category of thin laptops. It comes in a slate grey and light silver color. The hinge is also very sturdy and strong.
Lenovo found a way to place webcams around the top. It has a fingerprint scanner placed beside the power button and it is quite easy to reach. It also has an IR camera that allows facial recognition.
Display
For most laptops under $1,000, the display begins to fade as quickly as possible. However, the Lenovo Yoga Slim Pro 7 defies the odd with this. 2880 by 1800 resolution 14-inches IPS screen size is great, and it means that images and texts will look almost perfect.
The contrast ratio comes in at 1020:1, most ultrabooks do not perform as well in this regard but this is quite good. It also has a max brightness of 389 nits, which is balances the color display well.
The sRGB color rate is 100%, which is quite excellent. It has a 79% AdobeRGB and a 16:10 aspect ratio, which is great for social media and websites. Video editing is great on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Pro and content creators will enjoy using it. It is also excellent for both indoor and outdoor uses.
It has a 90Hz refresh rate, which makes it great for gaming and smooth sailing in general. Although you can set it back to 60Hz for better battery life.
Performance
This is perhaps the first chance to check out the AMD Ryzen 5 4600H processor, which is a new processor built by AMD in 2021. Reports say that it will be available in both Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9, but the Ryzen 5 is very good for the version that we tested.
The processor held its own against the Core-i7 that came with a GTX 1650ti with Max-Q. It performed excellently for everyday tasks like web browsing, emailing, and others.
You can also run games on the convertible Lenovo Yoga on low settings. Which makes it even more interesting. The AMD Radeon RX Vega 6 GPU holds its own.
It comes with a maximum of 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 1TB of a solid-state drive. The OS is a windows 10
The AMD Ryzen 5 is an entry-level processor, and it pulled impressive stuff. We can’t wait for what the Ryzen 7 and 9 versions are going to do.
Keyboard and trackpad
The keyboard is the familiar smile shape key that comes with the Yoga lineup from Lenovo. It is comfortable to type on, although it is a little shallow in terms of the key travel, the feedback is quite decent.
It has a multi-stage backlit that helps you work in any dark room or environment. The touchpad is quite responsive, with two-finger scrolling working smoothly and all the gestures working perfectly as advertised.
Ports
Firstly, there is no microSD card slot and no HDMI port. It doesn’t also support Thunderbolt 4. What you get are two USB Type-C ports, one USB Type-A port, and a 3.5mm jack for audio.
Battery life
Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Pro latest for 11 hours and 33 minutes on the web surfing test while using Wi-Fi at 150 nits. The adapter also supports a rapid charge boost. This means you can pull a 2 hours charge in 15 minutes, while the full charge takes only over an hour.
Conclusion
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Pro only has few cons which include the webcam but it can still be changed and improved by the time it officially launches.
The laptop is a complete package and its price point of under $1,000 makes it very attractive.
