Only a few gaming PCs get a professional level design, as most tend towards a flashier design. It is mainly about many LEDs or the RGB logo, as they make the features shine through or offer creative options. It is pretty rare to get a gaming PC that is not all up in your face, and that is what the Lenovo Legion 5 pro is.
The Lenovo Legion 5 pro is different from the regular non-flashy gaming PCs that are mostly bland when it comes to hardware. Aside from the subtle and simple designs, these gaming PCs don’t often produce the level of performance and power you will get from the RGB, flashy gaming PCs. Lenovo attempts to debunk that myth with its latest offering.
The Legion 5 brings a lot of gaming power in its non-flashy design. Although it comes with the Pro tag, it is a more subtle version of the Legion 5 but with a higher power level.
The Lenovo comes with a 165Hz display refresh rate, an aspect ratio of 16:10, an array of ports, a subtle and professional-looking design, and a top gaming performance.
Design
The first look at the new laptop brought with it a little surprise. The gaming PC shocked everyone as it abandons the usual RGB lit design for a quiet space grey look. My instinct pushed me to search for any trace of RGB in the PC, but I couldn’t find any trace. However, some units of the Legion Pro come with RGB-lit keyboards.
Also, Lenovo opted to take the LED logo to the center of the PC cover. The logo usually sat with the Legion letters in previous Legion PCs. This looks so different and cool, giving that it is the only piece on the PC cover with any form of light.
The design successfully executes the professional look that Lenovo attempted with the Legion 5 Pro. The subtleness of the design might even make the gaming PC pass for an ultrabook used for daily grind by professionals.
Display
The display looked great during a video editing session and when viewing photos. The experience was smooth, and a significant factor in that is the 16:10 display aspect ratio. The workspace on the screen allows you to maximize the use of applications at the same time. The display is also anti-glare, and the sRGB color-gamut is 100 percent, making it give accurate colors during editing.
The display spec is 16-inches, 2500 by 1600 IPS, Quad-HD. And it got an increased refresh rate at 165Hz. It is HDR certified, has the G-Sync from Nvidia, enabled for Dolby vision, and features the Freesync from AMD.
Performance
The Lenovo Legion has the Ryzen-7 AMD 5800H CPU to power it and the RTX-3070 Nvidia GeForce GPU for top gaming performance.
The PC delivered excellently when put through gaming tests. It handled Cyberpunk 2077 smoothly despite the graphics-intensive nature of the game. The effects were all in full view, and there was no drop in quality.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The laptop has a full-sized keyboard and a numbered keypad. The nameplate, a Lenovo feature, is located at the lower corner on the right side, and this gives the notebook more texture.
The Touchpad is located towards the left side, and this might clash with the W, S, A, D keys that users utilize for most of the latest games. Therefore, it is best to have the Touchpad disabled before a gaming session, as there might be accidental touches while gaming.
Battery Life
A drawback of this PC is the battery. The Legion 5 Pro doesn’t have a great battery, as it only lasted for a little over 3 hours during the video test. It is no surprise, though, as most gaming PCs have poor battery life.
Connectivity
The ports are majorly on the backside. Arranged from the left side to the right, the Gigabit RJ45 Ethernet port, one USB Type-C USB port, three Type-A USB ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and the power interface. There are some ports located on the sides – on the right side, the Type-A 3.2 USB port and the switch for electronic camera and the 3.5mm audio jack placed on the right side.
Final Verdict
Aside from the poor battery, Lenovo delivered an excellent gaming PC in terms of performance and looks. In the Legion Pro 5, you are getting a versatile gaming PC. The gaming hardware helps you maximize your gaming experience, and it is also helpful in creating content, which means more reasons to own one.
Lenovo laptops show that you don’t need all the RGB lights to deliver a complete gaming experience.
