If you want to buy a smartphone before the year runs out, there are lots of options, but there are also devices you shouldn’t look at when you want to get something new this year. A lot of new flagship devices are out there in the market, and they should be the devices you should look at. But if you don’t have that kind of money, there are other mid-range options you can consider.
If you don’t want something on the high end, there are still devices you can purchase that will serve your purposes such as iPhone 8, Google Pixel 3, iPhone XS, Samsung Galaxy S9 & S9+, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Google Pixel 2, OnePlus 7 & 6T and other former flagship devices that would be a bargain.
These are the few devices that should be on your shopping list if you need a new phone this year. The flagship devices you shouldn’t be considering for one reason or the other include;
iPhone 5s
The Apple iPhone 5s was a thing in the days when it reigned. Designed perfectly to be handheld and sleek on its day. The 5s was the last bit of small-screen iPhones before the release of its older big brothers. Reasons you should never consider to buy a 5s include,
- An outdated OS, the 5s uses iOS 12
- The parent company has dropped support for the 5s from their servers, so no more security updates or bug fixes. Whatever happens to that phone if you’re using it and you’re on your own.
iPhone 6 & 6 plus
You may probably be looking to get a 6 or 6 plus since the 5s is out of the equation, but they’re literally in the same boat if you know what I mean. The 6 and 6 plus are also stuck on iOS12, so no more updates on bugs or security for those phones. Users of this phone should probably get an upgrade on their device this year or early next year.
Samsung Galaxy S7
If you’re looking to switch to a Samsung device, the Galaxy S7 shouldn’t be it. Though the device is still holding its own in 2019, you’ll be better off with a newer model. The Galaxy S7, S7 edge, and S7 Active won’t move past the Android Oreo OS, so that means they will see no update on new features and security when they release their new OS leaving the user vulnerable.
Though the parent company still sends out updates on security and bug fixes, they will stop at a particular point, leaving the user a lot on their own.
Google Pixel and Pixel XL
The older brother to the latest Pixel device has seen better years but is still trying to see the future before its demise. These phones have become incredibly cheap, and they still receive updates from Google, but for how long? They’ve been upgraded to Android 10, but you’ll be better off with a newer device. The hardware of this device is outdated, especially its camera. Among the line of pixel phones, these are the ones with the weaker battery life, overall speed, and gaming function. You should consider changing them because they would soon stop receiving support from their parent company.
Samsung Galaxy Fold Launch
The Galaxy fold launch was the first flagship phone in the line of the Galaxy series. The device is the most expensive Galaxy phone ever released by Samsung. For its worth, this phone has one too many issues to go for that price. You’ll probably not go after this phone again, but if you were to get a phone/tablet hybrid, it should probably be during the re-launch of the Galaxy Fold launch or you wait for the Huawei’s mate x launch.
You can make a better deal for yourself by scratching all these first generational foldable phones and chill for the second or third generation because you won’t have to worry about the problems that come with the first design of a long line series.
