Getting the perfect laptop for professionals used to be a sort of myth because there was always something missing. But that’s not the case anymore. Laptop manufacturers are paying a lot of attention to professionals and content creators in recent times. Proof of that is the new Dell Precision 5750.
Many professionals and reviewers are calling the Dell the workstation version of the XP 17 9700. This laptop is in the same league as the ultra-thin workstations such as the Razer Blade Studio Pro or the MSI WS75.
As a workstation, it is expected that this laptop should be very powerful, handles thermals like a boss, and be able to run for very long periods while handling CPU and GPU intensive tasks.
Specifications
The most powerful variant of the Dell Precision 5750 comes equipped with an Intel Xeon W-10885M processor, a Quadro RTX 3000 Max-Q edition GPU, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 16 X 10 aspect ratio 2400p touchscreen with glossy finish for a price tag of $3,800. The 5750’s screen is 17.3-inch and the design puts it in the category of an ultra-thin workstation. The 5750 can be equipped with as high as 64GB of RAM and up to 4TB of M.2 SSD storage units.
There is a lesser variant of the Precision 5750 that comes with the less powerful Intel Core i5-10400H, 1200p matte display screen, integrated UHD 630 graphics, and 8 GB of DDR4 RAM for a lesser price than the higher-spec variant.
The storage is a 1TB Toshiba NVMe SSD drive.
Design
The Dell Precision 5750 looks elegant right from the jump. It is clear that a lot of work was put into making it look very sleek while maintaining a workstation feel. In an attempt to ensure that the laptop looks more like an Ultrabook than a workstation, the vents area is carefully hidden around the hinge area in a way that makes them look like USB Type-C ports.
The body of the 5750 is made of aluminum and carbon fiber. On both sides of the keyboard are machined speaker grills. The display has very thin bezels in a way that allows it to extend very close to the edge on every side.
The port selection on the 5750 is not as diverse as the ones found on other work stations. There are only four USB Type-C ports on the Dell Precision 5750 and no other traditional ports for monitor supports. There are no USB/connection ports at the back of the 5750 except for the vents.
If you want HDMI or USB-A, you should be prepared to get adapters or docking stations to use with your laptop. Luckily, a USB-C to HDMI and USB-A adapter is included in every box.
Display
The Precision 5750 comes with the same sharp IPS panel that is used in the XPS 17 which offers a great visual experience. The aspect ratio on this laptop is 16:10 and the screen is touch-enabled. The images on the screen look crisper due to the glossy overlay and of course the 500 nits of brightness. There is an option to configure this model with a 4K panel with relatively slow response time.
In terms of color space, the 5750’s screen covers all of sRGB and up to 87 percent of the 3D AdobeRGB space.
It is only the 1080p version that comes with a matte black overlay.
Performance
There are several options with which the Dell Precision 5750 can be configured in terms of processing units. The options range from the core i5-10400H to the Xeon W-10885M.
It should be noted that the Core i5-10750H does not support vPro and only the Xeon options allow for ECC RAM support.
The highest GPU that can be configured with this model is the Quadro RTX 3000 Max-Q edition with up to 64GB of RAM.
This laptop is definitely not going to give any killer performance when it comes to gaming as it is simply not designed for it. Professionals and Content creators are likely to get the most in terms of performance out of the Precision 5750. The Intel Xeon and the Nvidia Quadro RTX 3000 Max-Q edition makes this laptop a powerhouse when it comes to productive tasks in apps like Revit.
Due to limitations in the cooling system, there are cases of performance dip in sustained CineBench R15 xT loops. The Xeon model is observed to be 90 percent faster than the quad-core Core i5-10400H version.
